Deacon’s Corner: January 2026

Wow, a New Year, a New Beginning and many resolutions to keep.  Below are listed Virtues we all should always know and practice within our lives, (I still have work to do) ….

Someone asked me how many different virtues are there?  I answered it depends on who you ask………… Some theologians are clear however that there are 64 virtues to know and work on – The first person that comes to me with the correct list of all 64 virtues will receive a secret prize 😊 Good Luck – you have a great start with those below 😊

  • The three theological virtues
    • Faith, Hope, Charity
  • The Four cardinal Virtues
    • Prudence, Justice, Temperance, and Fortitude
  • The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit
    • Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord
  • Twelve Fruits of the Holy Spirit
    • Charity, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Perseverance, Mildness, Faith, Modesty, Continency, and Chastity
  • The Seven Corporal works of Mercy
    • Feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead.
  • The seven Spiritual works of Mercy
    • To counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish sinners, comfort the afflicted, forgive offenses, bear wrongs patiently, pray for the living and the dead.
  • Seven Deadly Sins
    • Pride, Covetousness, Lust, Anger, Gluttony, Envy, Sloth
  • The Seven virtues that oppose these sins directly.
    • Humility, Liberality, Chastity, meekness, Temperance, Brotherly Love, Diligence
  • Sins against the Holy Spirit
    • Presumption of God’s mercy, despair, impugning the known truth, Envy at another’s spiritual good, Obstinacy in Sin, Final impenitence.
