Deacon’s Corner: February 2026

As we now get ready for Lent it is good that we start to look at what keeps us away from the Love of God – our Sin.

These next few weeks please make and effort to get to the sacrament of Reconciliation.

 Last month I suggested that there are 64 virtues by which we can fight vice or sin. (no winner as yet) ….. This month, I offer some major vices that keep us from God.  May God grant all of us the ability to see our faults, and to repent and believe in the Gospel message.

• Sins against the Holy Spirit
  • Presumption of God’s mercy, despair, impugning the known truth, Envy at another’s spiritual good, Obstinacy in Sin, Final impenitence.
• Vices against Prudence
  • Inconsideration, Inconsistency, Negligence, Guile, Fraud
• Vices against Justice
  • Murder, Mutilation, Theft, Robbery, False Accusation, Perjury, Superstition, Idolatry, Simony, Divination, Derision
• Vices against Fortitude
  • Fear, Audacity, Presumption, Ambition, Inane Glory
• Vices against Temperance
  • Gluttony, Drunkenness, Lust, Fornication, Adultery, Incest, Anger, Cruelty, Crudity, Immodesty
• Vices against Faith
  • Infidelity, Heresy, Apostasy, Blasphemy
• Vices against Hope
  • Desperation, Presumption, Persistent absence of Trust in God
• Vices against Charity
  • Hatred of God, Sloth, Envy, Discord, Contention, Schism, Quarreling, Scandal

One the  most favorite ways the evil one keeps us from God is to seed us with the thoughts of “I am not worthy, or the Lord cannot forgive me”  Do not even think twice about these temptations as the Lord loves us all so much even if you were the last person on earth – he would have died for you – YES HE LOVES YOU THAT MUCH!

I will keep all of you in prayer that this Lent we may all deepen our relationship with God, through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. May God be merciful to us and hear all our prayers and petitions.
